Hoops for Hope — Free Throw Fundraiser for PPP3CA
$1 per made free throw • Oct 28–30, 2025 • During team practices
We’re launching Hoops for Hope; a simple, meaningful way for our players to give back while doing what they love. This fundraiser began when a family member of a player on one of our Legacy Hoopers teams reached out to help raise awareness of PPP3CA. Instead of keeping it small, we’re inviting every Legacy Hoopers team to participate. It affects a family member of a player on the 4th grade team, and as a family we are in full support. Please consider participating together we demonstrate that Legacy Hoopers is more than just basketball. When one of us needs support, we all step up.
What is PPP3CA?
PPP3CA is a gene that helps brain cells communicate by controlling an enzyme called calcineurin. When this gene doesn’t work properly, children can face early, difficult-to-control seizures and developmental challenges.
This fundraiser supports research and resources for families affected by PPP3CA. Your pledges and donations help advance science and provide hope.

Open Sign-Up & TrackerThis sheet is shared with players and families to keep track of pledges and sign-ups.
How it works
- Each player will shoot free throws for 90 seconds–2 minutes during their scheduled practice session while volunteers count makes. 5th grade girls will shoot on Oct 28; 4th grade boys and all other teams on Oct 29; and 6th grade boys on Oct 30.
- Sponsors pledge $1 per made free throw (flat gifts welcome).
- After each practice session, volunteers record makes and share totals; sponsors will receive the player’s total and a secure payment link.
- Optional: sponsors can set a maximum (e.g., “up to $25 or $30”).
What families do
- Encourage your player to identify 5–10 sponsors (family, friends, neighbours, coworkers).
- Use the sign‑up & sponsor tracker to record names and pledges.
- Arrive 5 minutes early to your player’s scheduled practice: Oct 28 for 5th grade girls, Oct 29 for 4th grade boys and most other teams, and Oct 30 for 6th grade boys. If your player prefers a quieter environment, let us know and we’ll assign them to a “quiet lane.”
- Share the fundraiser using the provided message (feel free to modify the date for your practice): “Hi! I’m shooting in our Hoops for Hope fundraiser on Oct 29. Would you pledge $1 per free throw I make in 2 minutes? I’ll send you my total and a secure donation link in early November. Thank you!”

Where funds go
Proceeds benefit the PPP3CA Hope Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that funds research and supports families living with PPP3CA-related disorders. Legacy Hoopers is a family
This fundraiser is about more than free throws — it’s about coming together as a community. When one of our families faces a challenge, we all pull together. Thank you for showing our Legacy Hoopers family what support looks like. Every pledge and donation makes a difference, both for research and for our fellow Legacy Hoopers family member living with a PPP3CA‑related condition.
