Legacy Hoopers Parent Communication

We’re grateful to all Legacy Hoopers families for your support and patience as we build this program together. In a short time, we’ve connected with more than 40 families across multiple grade levels.

As we continue to refine our structure, communication, and scheduling, our goal stays the same: to provide a positive, organized, and competitive basketball environment for every player and family. Starting a new AAU program is a process, and your trust and flexibility have been a big part of our early progress.

The Program Director and Coaching Director work together to align scheduling, communication, and the on-court experience. Program Director Frank Samaritano oversees overall operations and communication with families, and the Coaching Director, Coach Kenny Lane, is responsible for the playing aspects of the program, including evaluations, team systems, and player development.

This Parent Handbook & FAQ is designed to give you clear, consistent information about how Legacy Hoopers operates—from team formation and scheduling to communication and player development. We’ll update it as the program grows so everyone stays on the same page.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact us privately by email at info@legacyhoopers.org so we can address them thoughtfully and directly.

By participating in Legacy Hoopers, each family acknowledges these standards and agrees to support our staff and athletes in line with our mission: Grow Your Game. Leave Your Legacy.

Parent Handbook FAQ

1. Tryouts & Attendance

To be considered for a roster spot, players must be evaluated in person during a tryout or approved make-up evaluation.

Players are expected to attend at least one scheduled tryout unless an excused absence is approved in advance by the Coaching Director. Missing all tryouts without prior communication may remove a player from roster consideration.

Attending only one session allows us to evaluate your player but may limit placement options. Make-up evaluations are not guaranteed and are only offered if facilities and staff are available.

2. Team Placement

Team placement is determined solely by the Coaching Director. Evaluations consider measurable skills, effort, attitude, coachability, and how well a player fits the team’s needs. Participation in tryouts or previous Legacy programs does not guarantee placement.

Once posted, rosters are final. Placement decisions are not revisited or appealed. Rosters may be adjusted before league registration to maintain competitive balance or accommodate roster size and availability.

3. Team Size & Practice Players

Standard rosters typically include 8–10 active players. Additional athletes may be assigned as Practice Players. Practice Players train with the team and are expected to attend practice and follow all team communication, but they are not guaranteed game invitations.

Practice Player roles and expectations are explained in more detail in the section below.

4. Team Selection Process

Our goal is to place every player on the team where they can grow and contribute.

While independent evaluators may be used when available, all final decisions rest with the Coaching Director. Player performance during tryouts, previous seasons, and ongoing practices may all contribute to placement decisions. All evaluations, rankings, and placement notes are for internal use only and will not be shared with families.

5. Practice Player Definition

Practice Players are part of the team’s training group. They attend all practices, follow team communication, and are expected to uphold the same standards for effort, attitude, and conduct as rostered players.

Practice Players are not guaranteed game invitations or activation for league events. They may be invited to games or scrimmages at the coaching staff’s discretion. A practice player will be added to the roster when there are 8 or fewer rostered players available for a game.

Practice Player fees cover training participation only and are not credited toward future roster fees. If a player is later activated for games, any additional game-related fees will be communicated separately.

Consistent attendance and communication are expected. Repeated absences from practice, or failure to follow team communication, may result in loss of Practice Player status without refund.

Practice Player status is season-specific and does not carry over or guarantee a spot in future seasons.

6. Future Team Priority

Practice Players are considered for future teams, but there is no guaranteed spot. Prior participation may be a factor only when a player’s current evaluation is equal to that of a new player. Final decisions are based on current ability, roster needs, and overall fit.

7. Playing Time

Playing time is earned and is not guaranteed or equal. Coaches make game-time decisions based on effort, execution, practice performance, team needs, and attitude. Playing time can vary from game to game.

If you have a question about playing time, please wait at least 24 hours after a game and contact us by email.

We will not discuss playing time during or immediately after games or in front of players, and we will not discuss other players’ minutes. We will not compare your player’s minutes to another player’s minutes in any conversation.

Repeated public challenges to coaching decisions or arguments about playing time may result in removal from the program.

8. Insufficient Players / Team Formation

If minimum roster requirements are not met, Legacy Hoopers may combine age groups, offer Practice Player options, or cancel a team.

If a team is canceled, refunds will cover only uncommitted program expenses; administrative or processing fees may be withheld. Legacy Hoopers is not obligated to form or keep a team if minimum participation or coach availability cannot be maintained.

9. Leagues & Events

We choose leagues and tournaments that fit our players’ development and competition level.

League and tournament participation varies each season and is determined by Legacy Hoopers based on roster composition, competition level, travel, and scheduling. We may adjust league entry or event participation due to roster changes, scheduling conflicts, or program priorities.

Game schedules, venues, and opponents are managed by the host league and may change without notice. Legacy Hoopers is not responsible for league-level scheduling adjustments.

10. Multi-Sport Athletes

Legacy Hoopers encourages multi-sport participation and understands that athletes often balance school teams and other activities.

Once a player accepts a roster spot, Legacy Hoopers events are expected to be a top priority during that season, behind school team obligations. Families should share known conflicts before the season begins and update RSVPs in LeagueApps as early as possible.

Frequent or last-minute absences may affect playing time if they disrupt team continuity.

11. Fees & Payments

Program fees cover facility rentals, coaching, insurance, uniform kits, and league/tournament entry. Payment options are communicated before each season (e.g., pay in full or deposit plus installments).

Once a season begins or uniforms are ordered, fees become non-refundable because costs are committed in advance. Credits or refunds are not issued for absences, injuries, or scheduling conflicts. Families on payment plans remain responsible for all installments through the end of the season.

Limited financial assistance may be available to qualifying families; it is awarded case by case and does not guarantee roster placement or a specific role (for example, activation versus Practice Player).

12. Communication & Updates

Families are responsible for keeping their contact information in LeagueApps up to date and for submitting RSVPs for each scheduled event at least 24 hours in advance.

“I didn’t see the update” is not a valid reason for missing practices or games. Failure to RSVP may affect planning and could impact game activation. Legacy Hoopers is not responsible for missed information due to outdated contact details or notifications being disabled.

13. Program Philosophy

Program structure, coaching assignments, and team decisions related to basketball and competition are determined by the Coaching Director, in alignment with Legacy Hoopers’ mission and values.

Our mission is simple: Grow Your Game. Leave Your Legacy.

Parent & Player Code of Conduct

Legacy Hoopers is dedicated to fostering a positive, competitive, and respectful basketball environment for all athletes and families.

We reserve the right to suspend or remove any player or family whose behavior disrupts team culture or undermines staff decisions. In serious cases, removal may occur without refund. Decisions made by the Program Director and Coaching Director are final.
